The Islamic Tourism Centre has soft launched Islamic Tourism Month 2024 and the MFAR Plaques Award! Exciting times ahead as we celebrate and promote Islamic tourism.
KANGAR, PERLIS, 2 AUGUST 2024: His Royal Highness The Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, graced and officiated the Islamic Tourism Month (ITM) 2024 Soft Launch Ceremony and the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR) plaques presentation to MFAR certificate holders at Hotel Seri Malaysia Kangar today.
Launched in the presence of the Menteri Besar of Perlis, Yang Amat Berhormat Tuan Mohd. Shukri bin Ramli, ITM 2024 is an innovative campaign organized by Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) to offer captivating promotions extending to accommodation, travel packages, spa and wellness, food and beverages, mosque visits, shopping and retail, events and exhibitions, seminars and training, as well as healthcare packages. Additionally, this campaign is set to spotlight Malaysia’s established Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH) ecosystem, including facilities and activities attractively tailored for domestic and international tourists. This year, the campaign will run from 16 August 2024 to 30 September 2024, following positive feedback from industry players last year, where 125 partners participated in ITM nationwide.
To ride on the momentum, ITC, together with an expected 250 strategic partners this year, will continue to offer various events, activities, and tourism offerings to the public, tourists, as well as entrepreneurs and tourism industry enthusiasts in conjunction with ITM 2024.
Furthermore, ITM 2024 will feature Mosque Open Day organised in collaboration with renowned mosques throughout Malaysia, welcoming visitors with guided tours and attractive activities open to all levels of community. To further enliven ITM 2024, ITC will conduct a TikTok Challenge for public participation, rewarding grand prizes to winners.
Concurrently, His Royal Highness The Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, granted MFAR certificates of recognition to 26 tourism accommodation premises. Among the recipients of MFAR is Hotel Seri Malaysia, which has fulfilled the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH) guideline, hence recognised by the ITC as a Muslim-friendly hotel.
The MFAR is an accolade awarded by ITC to tourism industry players in Malaysia who provide facilities and hospitality that meet the needs and requirements of the Muslim tourist market, in accordance with the MFAR guidelines developed by ITC.
In his speech, Director-General of ITC, Nizran Noordin, emphasised the uniqueness of the MFAR programmes, which aims to leverage the existing MFTH ecosystem in Malaysia. The development of such programmes enhances Malaysia’s appeal as a premier Muslim-friendly tourism destination. It also adds value to tourism packages, indirectly showcasing our nation’s identity on the global stage, in line with the main objectives of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.
Furthermore, ITC participated in the Program Kayuhan MAIPs Peduli with His Royal Highness The Regent of Perlis, organised by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis – MAIPs). Introduced in 2013, this programme aims to support the underprivileged while promoting domestic tourism among Malaysians.
Nizran Nordin expressed his highest appreciation to ITM’s strategic partners for their proactive involvement in advancing this global effort to promote the MFTH sector. “I believe that the positive impact of this collaboration will benefit all industry players, both directly and indirectly. Therefore, let us continue to work together to elevate Malaysia’s cultural diversity in Muslim friendly tourism,” said Nizran.
